    Position Scope

    This position is responsible for determining training, learning and development requirements and needs, at the organizational and job level, assembling training paths, developing training courses and executing delivery of set training. Training paths will utilize existing courses, programs and modules, new material and courses, where required, or sourcing available external training.  The key deliverable is to ensure that all employees have the knowledge and competencies/capabilities to function at a working level, and that organizational needs are met and business objectives achieved.


    Develop and manage training curriculum

    • Assess training, learning and development requirements and needs within NACG
    • Conduct competency and need assessments
    • Identify, in collaboration with operational leaders, leadership and management skill gaps and the requirements to fill these identified gaps
    • Identify, in collaboration with operational leaders, process skill gaps and the requirements to fill these identified gap
    • Assess and identify operational technical software competency gaps
    • Identify key learning priorities in consultation with all NACG employees, cross-level and cross-functional
    • Develop and manage a training path for each operational job
    • Develop and source new training material
    • Research new training material
    • Develop and source training or training materials required to support training, learning and development requirements and needs
    • Map out operational processes and competency interconnectedness, and design training paths accordingly
    • Research, evaluate, and design training and learning courses and programs
    • Modify or revise existing training, learning and development courses and programs
    • Align training, development and educational programs with annual corporate business and strategic objectives
    • Review existing training, learning and development courses and programs
    • Assist in development of training communication documentation
    • Participate in new operational initiatives to identify training, learning and development requirements
    • Provide recommendation to management on improvement changes to operations, safety and production/process techniques
    • Responsible to remain current in industry, and maintain a pulse on benchmark organizations, related training, learning and development trends and best practices


    Coordinate and facilitate training curriculum

    • Execute delivery of set training
    • Facilitate training and learning courses and programs
    • Deliver training as required
    • Co-ordinate delivery of training and learning courses and programs with subject matter experts and leaders
    • Coordinate training and learning logistics with Training Coordinators and Training Manager
    • Evaluate training effectiveness
    • Analyze and utilize participant feedback, comments, and recommendations, and manage enhancements. revisions, and new initiatives, to training provided, accordingly
    • Provide feedback on training set and provided, training evaluation, and training initiatives to the Training Manager
    • Develop progress report and communication


    Collaborate and liaise with subject matter experts and management on training delivery

    • Advise and consult on adult learning
    • Provide team and individual performance consulting
    • Provide consultation to internal process experts in development and delivery of business and operation specific training, learning and development
    • Identify, collaborate and liaise with subject matter experts on delivery methods of material


    Assist in managing the Learning Management System (LMS) for Training

    • Utilize the LMS effectively for delivery, record keeping and reports pertaining to delivered training
    • Provide technical support and training to the Training team


    • Degree in Adult Education, Human Resources or related field.
    • Formal training in change management and team building considered an asset.
    • Project Management Professional (PMP)  certification considered an asset.
    • Minimum of five years’ experience in learning and development or training
    • Minimum three years’ experience of delivering or developing organizational training, learning and development including experience in competency and needs assessment, defining related objectives, developing curriculum and facilitating learning for adult learners
    • Prior experience within an operational position, or exposure to operations, desired (e.g. project management, maintenance/service,  and procurement)
    • Prior project management expertise is preferred
    • Prior experience working with or managing a Learning Management System (LMS)
    • Experience working with teams to build capability and improve performance including team building and individual coaching
    • Experience working with mid-size or large organizations in the natural resource or industrial construction sectors is preferred.
    • Strong knowledge of adult learning theories and practices
    • Strong organization and time management skills
    • Strong written communication skill
    • Strong verbal communication, specifically, presentation and facilitation skills
    • Strong initiative and problem solving abilities to complete the accountabilities set
    • Strong computer skills including typing, Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Visio)
    • Proficient in database and LMS software
    • Knowledge of Human Resources principles and practices
    • Familiar with managing a project from initial conception to execution/implementation
    • Ability to remain objective and calm under pressure
    • Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service and respond with a sense of urgency
