NACG are seeking an experienced Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic (Off-Road) to join our remote mining site team in the Fort McMurray area.

 

This is your opportunity to join one of the safest and largest contracts in the region.

 

For this role, NACG offers a combined gross rate of up to $74.45/hour as well as room for growth! 

 

Where You’ll Be Working

  • Site: Suncor Top Shop
  • Schedule: 14 x 14, 12 hour days (paid for 11.5 hours). Days/Nights.
  • Accommodations: Camp is not provided. $15 Living Out Allowance per hour.
  • Transportation: Bussing is provided from Fort McMurray to site (before and after shifts).
  • Overtime: Provided after 8 hours in a day or 44 hours in a week.

Responsibilities

  • Complete repairs on CAT/Komatsu/Hitachi equipment of all sizes.
  • Work closely with peers in both maintenance and operations.
  • Preventative Maintenance and servicing of all equipment.
  • Evaluate equipment performance and inspect to detect faults and malfunctions.
  • Trouble shooting systems – example: hydraulic, electrical & mechanical of all equipment and determine faults and extent of repair.
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturer specifications.
  • Mobilization of equipment for maintenance and repair.
  • Develop work scopes and schedules for equipment to be repaired.
  • Order required repair parts, complete reports and fill out work orders.
  • Teach and evaluate apprentices and mentor Mechanics.
  • Follow NACG codes of practice and Safe Operating Procedures.
  • Other maintenance duties as assigned.

Specific Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience post Journeyman certification on large Haul Trucks/Dozers/Graders and Excavators.
  • Possess excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills and abilities.
  • Capable of working with minimal supervision.
  • Exhibit professional work behaviors.
  • Committed to continuous learning.
  • Basic knowledge of computer applications.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills in daily work interaction

Qualifications

  • A valid Alberta Journeyman (Journeyperson) Equipment Technician (Off Road) Certificate or an Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman (Journeyperson) Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic/Technician (Off Road).
  • Experience with Cat SIS is an asset.
  • Previous experience on a Safety Sensitive work site an asset

Transferable Skills/Terms: HET, Heavy Equipment Technician, Heavy Duty Mechanic, Off Road Mechanic

Summary

All successful candidates must:

  1. Be proficient in English, both verbally and written
  2. Have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  3. Have experience as requested as mentioned above
  4. Subject to Random Testing at: Suncor, Suncor Fort Hills and Kearl sites
  5. Undergo and successfully pass the following testing:
    • Breath Alcohol Test
    • Urine Drug Test
    • Fitness-to-Work Assessment
    • Audiometric Testing
    • Vision Screening
    • Criminal Record Check

Shift, site, and start times are subject to change.

All successful candidates MUST provide the following items prior to confirmation of their start date:

  1. CSO or BSO Certification
  2. Copy of Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  3. Copy of recent Driver’s Abstract
  4. VOID cheque/direct deposit form
  5. Silica Awareness

Once dispatched the following processes will occur:

  1. Will receive a call from NACG to set up all required pre-employment testing
  2. An email will be sent with all required New Hire Paperwork to be filled out
  3. After all results are received by NACG candidates will be contacted by Site Admin to schedule orientation and confirm your start date and other site specific details.
